Myanmar: NDL wins 605 parliamentary seats

Myanmar’s Union Election Commission on November 12 announced that the National League for Democracy (NLD) won 605 seats at three levels in the country’s parliament.

Hanoi (VNA) - Myanmar’s Union Election Commission on November 12 announced that the National League for Democracy (NLD) won 605 seats at three levels in the country’s parliament.

Of the 605 seats so far occupied by the NLD, 196 are in the House of Representatives (Lower House), 95 in the House of Nationalities (Upper House) and 314 in the regional or state parliament.

Meanwhile, the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) obtained 23 seats in the House of Representatives, 10 in the House of Nationalities and 39 in the regional or state parliament.

The remaining parliamentary seats went to other parties.

The Myanmar Army holds 25 percent of all parliamentary seats under the country’s constitution.

President Thein Sein pledged to respect and obey the election results and transfer power peacefully.

Commander-in-Chief of Myanmar's Defense Services Senior-General Min Aung Hlaing and Parliament Speaker U Shwe Mann also promised to work hand-in-hand with the new government and work for peace, stability and development.

Earlier, Aung San Suu Kyi, leader of the NLD, requested to hold dialogues with President Thein Sein, Senior-General Min Aung Hlaing and Speaker U Shwe Mann on the basis of national reconciliation.-VNA
