Myanmar is prepared for possible anti-terrorism attacks in the country, including surveillance of suspected terrorists and specially-trained anti-terrorist combatants, an official said.

Hanoi (VNA) - Myanmar is prepared for possible anti-terrorism attack in the country, including surveillance of suspected terrorists and specially-trained anti-terrorist combatants, said Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Aung Soe.

Speaking to the country’s parliament on October 7, he said collaborating with local, regional and international organisations in fight against terrorism, Myanmar’s government has been working to respond speedily to destructive elements by carrying various tasks.

These include organising operation missions, deploying specially-trained anti-terrorism combat groups in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon and Mandalay, and guarding of dignitaries under a special security programme.

The exchange and collection of terrorist attack information, and linking with INTERPOL, ASEANAPOL, neighbouring countries, allied organisations and other sources are to be carried out.

Myanmar will also establish an administration centre for national-level emergency cases in Nay Pyi Taw, Aung Soe added, noting that this centre will be equipped with advanced technology.

He said his ministry has also made efforts to eradicate money laundering in the country to prevent the funding of terrorist groups.

He stressed at international border gates, up-to-date equipment and databases have been installed for security, surveillance and linking with INTERPOL, adding that terrorist attacks will be fought in coordination with the armed forces.-VNA
