The Myanmar Union Election Commission (UEC) has announced constituenciesfor the country’s upcoming 2015 general election scheduled for the endof October or beginning of November this year.
Accordingto a UEC announcement published on July 3, 330 constituencies are setfor election of the House of Representatives (Lower House), 168constituencies for the House of Nationalities (Upper House), 644constituencies for Regional or State Parliaments and 29 constituenciesfor Regional or State Parliaments for National Races.
This year’s general election will elect representatives for the parliament’s next term in begining 2016.
The current government, which took office in March 2011, will be replaced in March 2016.
The UEC also released procedures for international observers to participate in the election.
Accordingly,international observers are to submit applications to the UECstarting from the formal announcement of the election date until 15 daysbefore election day and are allowed to carry out their observation onlyin the designated areas proposed in their plans submitted to the UEC.
The UEC has requested international observers report their observation results within 60 days.-VNA
