Hanoi (VNA) – Myanmar’s Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) on January 11 announced that the Myanmar navy has seized 1.45 tonnes of methamphetamine worth over 36.25 billion MMK (17 billion USD) in its territorial waters.
According to the CCDAC’s announcement, the country's authorities confiscated the drugs on January 4 while they searched a wooden boat in Myanmar's territorial waters, approximately 217 km southeast of Hainggyikyun township of Ayeyarwady Region.
Initial investigations showed that the drugs were intended for transportation to foreign countries through Kawthoung, southern Myanmar, it said.
A total of seven suspects, including five offenders arrested, were charged under the country's Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law. The authorities are conducting further investigation./.
