Myanmar parliamentarian Naing Ngan Linn, a candidate from the opposition National League for Democracy (NLD) party, was attacked with machetes on October 29, a week before the general election, according to local media.

He was attacked while campaigning in Tharketa town in Yangon.

The candidate, who suffered injuries to his head, arms and wrist, had been undergoing surgery, according to his wife, Khin Sandar Win. But his life was not in danger.

Nyan Win, the NLD’s spokesman, asked police to take immediate action.

Myanmar is scheduled to hold general election on November 8.
