Hanoi (VNA) – National Assembly (NA) ChairmanVuong Dinh Hue hailed contributions of the Air Defence - Air Force (ADAF) tothe cause of national construction and defence and pointed out tasks for theforce in the new situation while addressing a ceremony celebrating its 60thtraditional day in Hanoi on October 19.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong,President Vo Van Thuong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and NA Chairman VuongDinh Hue sent and presented baskets of flowers to congratulate the force.

Hue stressed that the force’s process ofestablishment, fighting and development is associated with the struggle of thenation and the army under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam andlate President Ho Chi Minh, saying over the past six decades, generations ofofficers and soldiers of the ADAF have achieved many glorious feats of arms andoutstanding achievements.

The leader highlighted the core role of the forceduring the resistance wars against the French colonists and the USimperialists, notably in the Dien Bien Phu Campaign that led to a victory that“resounded throughout the five continents and was world-shaking” in 1954, andthe “Hanoi – Dien Bien Phu in the Air” victory, forcing the US to sign theParis agreement on ending the war and restoring peace in Vietnam.

Hue also lauded the ADAF’s contributions to searchand rescue operations, helping people overcome consequences of naturaldisasters and diseases, and poverty reduction.  

Analysing the current domestic and internationalsituation, he asked the force to carry forward traditions and the greatnational unity bloc, and continue to well implement relevant resolutions adoptedby the Party and the Central Military Commission.

The NA Chairman laid emphasis on personneltraining, and the need to optimise new technologies, and keep a close watch onthe situation, saying the ADAF should further fulfill its role as an adviser tothe Party, the State, the Central Military Commission and the Ministry ofNational Defence.

The ADAF was also asked to pay more attention toParty and political system building, step up the campaign on studying andfollowing President Ho Chi Minh’s thought, morality and lifestyle, and enhancedefence diplomacy.

The leader noted his belief that ADAF willoutstandingly fulfill its assigned tasks, making itself a revolutionary,regular, elite and modern force.

On this occasion, Hue presented gifts to familiesof martyrs and female officers and soldiers of the ADAF./.
