Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Uong Chu Luu has asked the southernmost province of Ca Mau to accelerate the implementation and popularisation of the newly-amended Constitution, thus putting it into life.
The revised Constitution is divided into 11 chapters with 120 articles (one chapter and 27 articles fewer than the previous version). It came into force on January 1, 2014.
The legislator made the request while touring the locality on February 25, during which he urged Ca Mau to exert more efforts in socio-economic development, improving people’s living standards and ensuring social welfare, political stability, national defence and security, and social order.
In order to spur socio-economic growth in a sustainable manner, Ca Mau should heed economic transformation, from agriculture, forestry and fisheries to industry, construction and services, he said.
NA Vice Chairman Luu also stressed the need for the province to mobilise resources for the response to natural disasters and climate change, the protection of natural resources and environment, and the building of new-style rural areas.
With 295,000 hectares of aquaculture, Ca Mau holds potential for further growth in 2014 and the years to come, he said, requiring the locality to extract such advantages in service of export.
He also noted the gas-power-fertiliser complex located in Ca Mau, which he said, could help the province raise budget collection and boost economic growth.
In 2014, Ca Mau strives to increase its gross domestic product (GDP) by about nine percent against the previous year and collect 5.3 trillion VND (291 million USD) for the State budget.
The locality’s export revenue is projected to hit 1.12 billion USD, and the number of poor households is expected to drop from 1.7-2 percent annually.-VNA
