National domain name use surges

The total number of national registered domain names with “.vn” reached 453,979 as of last month, an increase of 9.33 percent over the same period last year, according to the Vietnam Internet Network Information Centre.

HCM City (VNS/VNA) - The total number ofnational registered domain names with “.vn” reached 453,979 as of last month,an increase of 9.33 percent over the same period last year, according to the VietnamInternet Network Information Centre.

Of these, the domain name “.vn” accounted for 54.9 percentand the “.com.vn” accounted for 35.2 percent. 

In its e-commerce Index 2018, Vietnam E-Commerce Associationreported that the total number of websites with the country domain names “.vn”and “.com.vn” accounted for more than 90 percent of total websites. 

The domain name “.vn” is the country code top-level domain,which has been transferred by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names andNumbers to Vietnam for management. 

According to experts, the national domain name is protectedby Vietnamese law.

When using the national domain name, enterprises will be ableto prevent counterfeit numbers and also minimise the loss of communication withinternational partners when a fibre-optic cable breaks.

In addition, thanks to the priority of the domain name searchengine with the country code .vn when searching in Vietnam, businesses in anysector that use this domain can easily reach customers.

One of the barriers to registering the domain name .vn includescomplicated procedures, and takes much time. 

To improve the situation, the Vietnam Internet NetworkInformation Centre has allowed domain registrars to pilot online registrationfor the national domain names starting from September 10.

The registration of the domain name .vn is simple and fast,but still complies with the regulations on the registration of domain names,according to the centre.

Huynh Ngoc Duy, CEO of Mat Bao Corporation, which is thefirst company allowed to pilot online application for the domain name .vn, saidthe registration of the domain name .vn via online application is an importantstep in improving transactions in processing applications and archive records,and maintaining the domain name .vn.

At the same time, it will also help save time for customerswhile still ensuring compliance of regulations on registration of the domainname .vn. –VNS/VNA
