The International Day of Nelson Mandela was held in Hanoi on July 19 on the occasion of his 92 nd birthday (July 18).
Participants at this year’s event, jointly hosted by the South African embassy in Hanoi and the Central Hospital of Cancer, presented 60 packages of gifts, including milk, toys, candy and comic books worth more than 60 million VND, to child patients being treated at the hospital.
Established in 2009 by the United Nations General Assembly, the day, which falls on July 18, aims to recognise the contributions of the former South African President, who devoted 67 years of his life to his community, his country and the world in promoting a culture of peace and freedom./.
