Nestle to build 270 million USD coffee plant

Thefactory will produce instant coffee for local use and export and isexpected to open by 2013, said Rasid Qureshi, general director of NestleVietnam.

"The venture is expected to create 200 jobs andhundreds of other indirect jobs," Qureshi said, adding that the companyhas pledged to directly purchase 30,000 tonnes of coffee from 16,000farmer households every year.

He said Nestle is working with theMinistry of Agriculture and Rural Development to improve coffeeproductivity through better farming practices and by distributinghigh-yield, disease-resistant plants.

"The ultimate goal is toengage with 20,000 Vietnamese coffee farmer households within fiveyears," he said. "Nestle Vietnam has built a strong partnership withlocal partners to become a top coffee buyer in the country."

DeputyMinister of Industry and Trade Tran Quoc Khanh said the company willhelp create stable jobs, boost coffee-bean sales, contribute to theState budget and, more importantly, help introduce Vietnamese coffee tothe world.

Between 1995-2011, Nestle has increased its capitalinvestment in the country from 25 million USD to 75 million USD,employing more than 1,500 workers nationwide./.

Car sales increase sharply in June

Passenger cars accounted for the largest number of sales with 22,934 vehicles, up 14.6% over the previous month. Meanwhile, sales of commercial vehicles reached 8,782, down 2%, while specialised vehicle sales reached 261, up 23% over the previous month.
