A baby giraffe, born in late October has attracted more visitors to the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens.

This baby giraffe is almost two months old, weighs 60kg and stands at around 2m tall. She is still nursing and will learn to eat leaves soon.

The giraffe family has become a major attraction for the 150-year-old since it welcomed its latest member.

The breeding giraffe pair was brought to the zoo from Thailand four years ago. The young calf was born following 15 months of mother giraffe’s pregnancy and two hour delivery.

The Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens is now home to over 1,100 animals of over 130 species – most of which are listed on the Vietnam and global red list of threatened species. Some were born and raised at the zoo. The newest baby giraffe is the result of the zoo’s preservation work.

The Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens is known as one of the 10 oldest zoos in the world, and a tourist attraction to both domestic and foreign visitors.-VNA
