On Mar. 5 the Vietnamese Embassy in the US hosted a discussion on Vietnam’s diplomatic policy, as part of the Vietnam Forum, the first of its kind in the US.
Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Cuong gave an overview of Vietnam’s diplomatic goals in the years up to 2020 and the new changes in its diplomatic guidelines adopted by the 11 th National Party Congress, most importantly the country’s policy on international integration and diplomatic activities.
The delegates expressed an interest in Vietnam’s diplomatic relations with other developed countries, its cooperation with ASEAN, the negotiating process to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement and the building of law-governed State.
They gave high estimations of the first meeting of the Vietnam Forum, regarding the forum as a practical and useful information channel for those with interests in Southeast Asia, Vietnam and Vietnam – US relations.
In the near future, the Vietnamese Embassy in the US will hold regular meetings of the Vietnam Forum on issues related to security and Vietnam’s development with the participation of a number of ASEAN, US and Vietnamese researchers and policymakers.-VNA
