Vietnam will take part in the 13th Asian Karate Federation Senior Championships from September 4-6 in Yokohama, Japan.
Nguyen Hoang Ngan will carry the team's hopes for glory, as the kata (performance) queen has won a number of titles in international competitions.
At the 17th Asian Games (ASIAD) in the Republic of Korea last year, Ngan earned a silver medal in the women's individual kata category.
Vietnamese fighters also join in kumite (combat) classes, but there is little hope for a title, as ASIAD champions Le Bich Phuong and Vu Thi Nguyet Anh are not competing. Phuong is not in the best form, while Anh has retired and is working as a trainer.
In the previous championships in the United Arab Emirates two years ago, Vietnam won one silver and one bronze medal, both in the kata events.-VNA
