Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark to receive UNESCO status

Hanoi (VNA) – A ceremony will be held on November 24 in Cao Bangcity to receive a certificate from UNESCO recognising Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geoparkthe northern border province of Cao Bang as a global geopark by the UNESCO, aheard at a press conference in Hanoi on November 6.

Non Nuoc Cao Bang is about 300km from Hanoi capital city. It covers more than3,000 sq.km. in the districts of Ha Quang, Tra Linh, Quang Uyen, Trung Khanh,Ha Lang and Phuc Hoa and part of Hoa An, Nguyen Binh and Thach An districts.

The geopark is home to fossils, ocean sediment, volcanic rocks, minerals, andespecially karst landscapes, which can give researchers an insight into anover-500-million-year history of the Earth. It is also well known for richbiodiversity and many indigenous fauna and flora species.

According to the Cao Bang provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism,the province will carry out three tourism routes in the geopark area so as toattract more tourists.

This is the second UNESCO-recognised Global Geopark in Vietnam after Dong VanKarst Plateau, which was recognised in 2010.

Non Nuoc Cao Bang was established in 2015. In November 2016, Cao Bang submitteda dossier to UNESCO to seek the global geopark recognition. A survey team ofUNESCO came to the province in July 2017 to make assessment of the park’s valuesand conservation work.

The certificate receiving ceremony will be broadcast live on Vietnam Televisionchannel VTV1. At the event, the province will announce the historical relicsite on Border Victory in 1950 in Thach An district as a special national site.

The organising board also said a series of activities, including an investment,trade and tourism promotion conference, will take place in Cao Bang city fromNovember 23 – 27 with the participation of nearly 400 delegates. - VNA

Coast Guard Region 3 intensifies patrols to combat IUU fishing

Vietnam Red Cross launches emergency aid for storm-hit provinces

The Vietnam Red Cross Society has decided to allocate over 3.3 billion VND (125,472 USD) in cash and goods to assist Dak Lak, Gia Lai, and Quang Ngai provinces, with the funding from its H2025 relief account at Vietcombank and from the “Clean Water for Communities” project, sponsored by Procter & Gamble (P&G) through Americares.

Vietnamese, Chinese border guards coordinate to promote legal awareness among residents

During the four-day programme, thousands of leaflets were distributed, covering topics such as border management agreements and protocols, the agreement on regulations for management of the Vietnam–China land border, immigration and customs laws, border gate management, and measures to combat smuggling and trade fraud, as well as the importance of safeguarding national sovereignty and border security.

Breeding cows presented to poor households along Vietnam–Cambodia border
