Number of tourists between Vietnam, Japan to reach 1.5 million by 2020

Hanoi (VNA) – Japan is a key market of the Vietnamese tourism sector,Deputy Ambassador of Vietnam to Japan Lam Thanh Phuong said on May 14,predicting that the exchange of tourists between the two countries would reach1.5 million arrivals by 2020.

Speaking at a workshopto promote central Da Nang city’s tourism in Tokyo, the official added that thenumber of visitors between the two nations surpassed 1.2 million last year, inwhich 826,000 Japanese people traveled to Vietnam, and 390,000 Vietnamesetourists visited Japan.

She attributed thepositive figure to an increase in the number of flights linking the twocountries. Each week, there are 120 flights between the two countries conductedby the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines and low-cost carrier Vietjet Air.Bamboo Airway, Vietnam’s newest airline, has also announced its plan to opendirect air routes connecting Vietnam and Japan.

Deputy head of the DaNang municipal Department of Tourism Nguyen Xuan Binh said that the city isfocusing on attracting tourists from key markets, including Japan.

It has many tourismproducts suitable for Japanese holiday-makers, especially a long and beautifulcoast, he stated.

He told Vietnam NewsAgency reporters on the sidelines of the workshop that last year, around160,000 Japanese tourists entered Vietnam via the Da Nang InternationalAirport.

The figure is quiteimpressive, but fails to match tourism potential of the city in particular andthe central region in general, he added.-VNA
