Hanoi (VNA) – The occupancy rate atactive industrial parks (IPs) nationwide in January-July was about 73 percent,according to the Management Department of Economic Zones under the Ministry ofPlanning and Investment.

In the 7-month period, fivenew IPs were established or given green light to set up on a total area of1,882.6 ha, while one had its licence withdrawn and another was excluded fromthe national planning.

As of the end of July, the country had 328industrial parks covering 96,300 hectares, of which 223 had become operational.

The country had 16 newly-established economiczones covering approximately 815,000 hectares and plans to set up two coastaleconomic ones in northern Thai Binh and Nam Dinh provinces.

IPs and economic zones have so far attracted7,757 foreign-invested projects with combined capital of 163.9 billion USD,around 58 percent of which has been disbursed.

The zones are also accommodating8,052 domestic projects.

Additionally, 87 percent of the 223 operationalindustrial parks have built waste treatment plants, fulfilling the NationalAssembly’s set target.

Head of the Management Department of EconomicZones Tran Duy Dong said the department will continue improving the planningwork for industrial parks in order to ensure the proper and effectiveness useof land.-VNA
