Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Foreign Minister and Head of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs Nguyen Quoc Cuong led a delegation to visit the UK from June 16-18.
During the visit, the delegation had a meeting with the Vietnamese Association, the Vietnamese intellectuals’ group in the UK and representatives of Vietnamese students in the country.
At the meeting with the Vietnamese Association in the UK, Deputy FM Cuong affirmed the role and contributions of the Vietnamese community abroad to the development of the homeland.
He showed his belief that the Vietnamese community in the UK will continue promoting their mutual support and heading to the homeland.
President of the Vietnamese Association in the UK Vuong Hung briefed the delegation on the major developments of the association over the years as well as the aspirations of the community.
Over the past years, the association has received great support from the Vietnamese Embassy in the UK, especially in fostering connection with their fellows in the homeland.
In a meeting with Vietnamese intellectuals in the UK, Deputy FM Cuong expressed his delight that Vietnamese intellectuals have made their presence in strong sectors of the host country such as finance-banking, law, economy, IT, pharmaceuticals, and AI.
The group members said that they wish to make more contributions to the homeland through projects in Vietnam.
Cuong pledged that the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs will work hard to connect the Vietnamese intellectuals abroad with their peers at home, thus optimising the potential of both sides.
During his stay, the Deputy FM also had a meeting with the Vietnamese Embassy as well as Vietnamese representative offices in the UK.-VNA
