Nghe An (VNA) – Vice President Dang Thi NgocThinh visited the Vinh Diocese and itsBishop Nguyen Huu Long in the central province of Nghe An on December 18, onthe occasion of the upcoming Christmas holiday.

The Vice President said 2019 is a successful year for NgheAn province with many socio-economic targets achieved or overfulfilled. Sheaffirmed that the local Catholic dignitaries and followers have contributed tothose successes.  

She wished that the Vinh Diocese would continue encouragingCatholic followers to join national patriotic emulation campaigns, thus contributingmore to the nation.

The Vice President took the occasion to affirm that theParty and State always respect the citizens’ right to religious freedom andprovide all possible support for them to exercise the right.

In the morning the same day, she presented gifts to needyfamilies and children in Nghi Loc and Dien Chau districts.

Also the same day, head of the Party Central Committee’sMass Mobilisation Commission Truong Thi Mai paid a pre-Christmas visit to the HueArchdiocese in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue.

She was received by Archbishop Joseph Nguyen Chi Linh, President of the Catholic Bishops’Conference of Vietnam and Archbishop of Hue Archdiocese.

On the occasion, Party General Secretary and PresidentNguyen Phu Trong also sent a basket of congratulatory flowers to Catholicdignitaries and followers at the Hue Archdiocese.

Mai lauded the Archbishop of Hue Archdiocese, Catholicdignitaries and followers for partnering with the Party committee, authoritiesand people of Thua Thien-Hue province in the local socio-economic development.

Archbishop Linh said the provincial authorities alwayscreate favourable conditions for Catholic followers to contribute more to thesociety.

Also on December 18, President of the Vietnam FatherlandFront Central Committee Tran Thanh Man visited and conveyed Christmas greetingsto the Quy Nhon Diocese in the central province of Binh Dinh and Nha TrangDiocese in the central province of Khanh Hoa./.

Coast Guard Region 3 intensifies patrols to combat IUU fishing

After ten days of implementing a peak campaign against IUU fishing from October 29 to November 8, patrol and inspection forces of Coast Guard Region 3, in coordination with Border Guard Squadron 18, detected and fined 54 fishing vessels, collecting more than 580 million VND (about 22,000 USD) in fines.

Vietnam Red Cross launches emergency aid for storm-hit provinces

The Vietnam Red Cross Society has decided to allocate over 3.3 billion VND (125,472 USD) in cash and goods to assist Dak Lak, Gia Lai, and Quang Ngai provinces, with the funding from its H2025 relief account at Vietcombank and from the “Clean Water for Communities” project, sponsored by Procter & Gamble (P&G) through Americares.

Vietnamese, Chinese border guards coordinate to promote legal awareness among residents

During the four-day programme, thousands of leaflets were distributed, covering topics such as border management agreements and protocols, the agreement on regulations for management of the Vietnam–China land border, immigration and customs laws, border gate management, and measures to combat smuggling and trade fraud, as well as the importance of safeguarding national sovereignty and border security.

PM visits residents, armed forces in Thanh Hoa's border commune
