ORBIS, an international non-governmental humanitarian organisation, on March 4 launched its fourth ORBIS Flying Eyes Hospital in the central city of Da Nang, aiming to help improve capacity for ophthalmological doctors in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
More than 180 doctors, nurses and technicians from hospitals across the country and Laos and Cambodia will receive intensive training in the treatment of three leading blindness-causing diseases, including cataract, diabetic retinopathy and child eye diseases.
The programme engages 24 ophthalmological experts from the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland, who will give lectures and conduct online and in-the-spot surgeries.
During the three-week programme, which is funded by FedEx Group, nearly 250 patients will receive check-ups and some 80 patients will be provided with free surgeries and laser treatment.
