Outstanding ethnic students to receive scholarships

A cultural programme to award scholarships to ethnic minority students nationwide who performed outstandingly in the 2014-2015 school year will take place in Ho Chi Minh City on June 13.

Themed“Lighting the dreams”, the event will be co-organised by the Vu A DinhScholarship Fund under the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union CentralCommittee and Ho Chi Minh City Television.

At the June 10conference to introduce the programme, former Vice President andChairwoman of the Vu A Dinh Fund Truong My Hoa said the fund hasimplemented a number of projects to assist ethnic minority studentsnationwide in parallel with 5,000 scholarships provided to outstandingstudents annually.

Since the beginning of the year, the fundhas received 37 billion VND (1.7 million USD) from individuals andorganisations.

Thus far, the scholarship fund has helped buildnine schools, including two primary schools on the Truong Sa Lon andSinh Ton islands of Truong Sa archipelago, and over 50 houses and tensof concrete bridges in disadvantaged areas.-VNA

During the same period, the Hanoi Traffic Operation Centre, in coordination with bus operators, will also waive fares on subsidised bus services. The programme will apply to 128 subsidised routes citywide over the nine days, with passengers granted tickets according to route pricing but paying no fare.
