The hope for a better future is being realised for many Vietnamese children with inborn heart diseases nationwide, via a fund-raising programme which has been going on for four years as a joint effort of Vietnam Television, the millitary-run telecommunications group, Viettel, and the East Meets West Foundation.
The programme “Hearts for you” marked its fourth year at a ceremony broadcast live on September 29 and raised 12 billion VND during one single night.
Over the past four years, the programme has funded heart surgeries for 1,400 child patients in need, provided health check-ups for nearly 6,000 poor children in remote areas and bought equipment for the surgeries, said the Hanoi Moi newspaper.
The Viettel group has committed 8 billion VND to the programme during two years 2012 and 2013.-VNA
