Da Nang (VNA) – More than 1,600 athletes from 56 countries, including 620 Vietnamese, took part in the triathlon race Techcombank Ironman 70.3 Vietnam 2018 in the central city of Da Nang on May 13.
The fourth edition of Techcombank Ironman 70.3 Vietnam, with the message of “Be greater together,” started with a 1.9km swim from Hyatt Regency Resort that was followed by a 90-km track bike race along the coastal line, and ended with 21km of running.
It is one of the few sports where professional and amateur athletes compete together as they all strive to be greater in their goal to reach the finish line.
This is an international sporting event organized by Sunrise Events Vietnam with great support from the Da Nang city Department of Culture and Sports.
From a one-day event that was held in 2015, three years later, the Techcombank Ironman 70.3 Vietnam 2018 has been expanded into a multi-day event, with many categories and activities for families to join.
Nguyen Le Quoc Anh, CEO of Techcombank, said the Techcombank Ironman 70.3 Vietnam 2018 has contributed to developing sports movement and promoting tourism of Da Nang and Vietnam to the world.
Huynh Van Hung, Director of the municipal Department of Culture and Sports, said the municipal People’s Committee has decided to turn Techcombank Ironman 70.3 Vietnam into a quinquennial event of the city.
Earlier, on the sidelines of the event, there were the third edition of Ironkids, a playground for kids aged from 6-14 to show their swimming and running skills, the second edition of the Sunrise Sprint, which is designed for new triathletes, and the third edition of the Newborns Run Out which raises fund for Newborns Vietnam, a charity organisation committed to reducing infant mortality in Vietnam.-VNA
