Da Nang (VNA) – Multisport competitions for both adults and children, including the popular Ironman race, are schedule to hit the central coastal city of Da Nang on May 7.
More than 1,250 athletes from 52 countries will race in VNG Ironman 70.3 Vietnam, which was first introduced in Da Nang in 2015. Of the total, 330 racers are from Vietnam.
The competition organiser, Sunrise Events Vietnam, said competitors will compete in a 1.9km ocean swim near the Son Thuy beach, a two-loop 90km bike race and a 21km run along the coastline.
Director of the Da Nang Department of Culture and Sports Huynh Van Hung said the success of the Ironman race in the past two years have helped it to become an annual event of the city in five years.
He added that Sunrise Events Vietnam will continue to receive support from the authorities to build racing routes as well as to ensure security, environmental protection and health services, in a bid to make the city one of the best venues for the competition in Asia.
Along the Ironman 70.3, another triathlon, the Sunrise Sprint, in its Da Nang debut, will treat athletes to a shorter course of 750m on the ocean, 20km on bikes and 5km on foot.
Sporty children will find their playground with the Ironkids race, which enables them to run and participate in aquathlons. A 150m swim and 2km run course is designated for young athletes between 11 and 14 years old, while the routes for younger children from six to ten are reduced by half.-VNA
