Hanoi (VNA) - The 7th Hanoi International Film Festival 2024 (HANIFF VII) themed “Cinema: Soaring Creativity” opened on November 7 evening, with a series of attractive events.

Featuring 117 movies from 51 countries and territories worldwide, the festival presents global issues, diverse aspects of social life, as well as the beauty and unique customs, and cultural identities of nations around the world.

In his opening speech, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong said the event holds special significance as Hanoi has commemorated the 70th anniversary of its Liberation Day.

Dong underlined the importance of the festival for Vietnam’s cinema industry, saying that it opens opportunities for international collaboration, allowing Vietnamese filmmakers to meet, exchange, and learn from international directors, producers, and artists; and access the latest film trends and technologies.

Apart from film screenings and seminars, a project market to introduce nearly 70 film projects from over 20 countries and territories around the world has been arranged, contributing to developing young talents and providing high-quality human resources for Vietnam’s cinema industry.

The event serves as an opportunity to showcase Vietnam as an attractive destination for international film crews, with its unique and distinctive filming locations, Dong noted.

HANIFF VII is not only a distinctive cultural event but also contributes to promoting sustainable development of Vietnam's film industry, helping the country leave a mark in international integration, he stressed, affirming that the event is also a political and artistic activity to concretise the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV)'s policy on building an advanced culture imbued with national identity.

Besides film screenings, the festival will organise two seminars to introduce German cinema and discuss historical film and literary adaptation production. Participants will also have a chance to join sideline activities, including outdoor film screening programmes, exchanges with actors and actresses, and sightseeing tours to some attractive destinations in Hanoi, among others.

The festival will offer free screenings at the National Cinema Centre in 87 Lang Ha Street, BHD Star Cineplex in No. 2 Pham Ngoc Thach, and CGV Mipec Tower in 229 Tay Son, Hanoi./.
