The Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam ) and the Vietnam Lilama Mechanical Corporation (Lilama) signed an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract for the Song Hau 1 thermoelectricity plant project in Hanoi on April 10.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai requested the investor and contractor cooperate effectively, particularly in manpower selection in order to meet work demand.
The plant has a total investment capital of over 43 trillion VND (2.05 billion USD), covering an area of 115 hectares. The coal used for the plant will be imported from Australia or Indonesia.
The plant has total capacity of 1,200 MW and will serve as a subsidiary of the Song Hau Electrical Centre in Chau Thanh district, the southern province of Hau Giang. The work is one of major projects under the National Electrical Development Plan from 2011-2020, approved by the Prime Minister.
The plant is one of three thermoelectricity factories of the Song Hau Electrical Central, with a total capacity of 5,200 MW.
Once completed and put into operation as scheduled in 2019, the plant will add about 7.8 billion kWh each year to the national grid, helping safeguard national energy security and boosting economic development in the Mekong Delta region.
According to PetroVietnam’s General Director Nguyen Quoc Khanh, the will work closely with relevant units to ensure project progress and quality as well as meet requirements on environment protection and cost saving.-VNA
