Over 51 million workers employed in first nine months

According to the General Statistics Office, in the first nine months of 2024, the total number of employed workers reached over 51 million.

In the third quarter, the labor force aged 15 and above surpassed 52 million, up more than 114,000 people compared to the previous quarter and nearly 240,000 people year-on-year.

Among them, there were 33 million informal workers, accounting for nearly 64% of total, down 1.3% from the previous quarter, and 1.1% from the same period last year.

The underemployment situation showed improvement, with 861,400 underemployed workers in the third quarter, down 86,700 from the previous quarter.

Vietnam’s unemployment rate for the third quarter stood at 2.24%. The youth unemployment rate (aged 15-24) was 7.75%, lower than the global average, but still relatively high.

While the labor market continues to recover, gaps persist between labor supply and the demands of a modern, sustainable economy.

Regarding the work of training, more than 37.6 million workers remain unskilled, and only 28.5% of the workforce has received formal training./.
