Over 6 billion USD will be invested in building the Long Thanh International Airport (LTIA) in the southern province of Dong Nai.
According to the Japan Airport Consultancy Company (JAC)’s final report on the LTIA master plan, which was approved by the Ministry of Transport last week, the LTIA is planned to become a transit airport in Southeast Asia with a designed capacity of handling 44.5 million passengers and 1.2 million tonnes of cargo per year by 2030.
Located in Long Thanh district, about 43 km east of the Tan Son Nhat International Airport , the LTIA will accommodate 90 percent of international flights and 20 percent of domestic flights from and to Ho Chi Minh City .
Construction of the airport will begin in 2018 with two important work items, including a 1.27 billion USD system of take-off and landing ways and parking area and a 1.4 billion USD passenger terminal./.
