Jakarta (VNA) – A total of 71 passengers have been saved from a ferry accident in the strait between the Indonesian islands of Bali and Java, but four are still unaccounted for, local officials said on March 4.
The National Search and Rescue Agency said the passengers jumped into the sea as the boat was capsizing and sinking.
Among the rescued people, many have been injured.
The search for missing persons has been ongoing, but bad weather conditions are preventing the efforts.
Head of Bali ’s Search and Rescue Agency Didi Hamzar said the list of people on board was only 51, including 14 crewmen.
Ferry Rafelia II was en route from Gilimanuk port in Bali to Ketapang port in Banyuwangi in East Java.
The ferry capsized and sunk 15 minutes after departure.-VNA
