According to experts, approximately 30-44 percent of total working hours will be digitalised by 2030. Therefore, as youngsters are making decisions to study abroad, the areas of expertise they will be specialising in should not be overlooked, especially given the unemployment rate of overseas alumni and the number of workers employed in fields outside of their degrees.
Many overseas education consultancy centres have revealed that it is quite common for overseas alumni to find work in areas different from their degrees or majors, especially as choosing these specialities while in high school often leaves children susceptible to passing trends and other influences. Furthermore, current trends are consistently evolving, especially given the restless nature of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
However, many students still choose their studies based on the heavy influences of their parents, which sometimes can reflect dated employment tendencies.
Experts say the digital era will change the face of the labour market in various successions. Thus, students should consider catching the Industry 4.0 waves, in order not to be left behind by the employment market once they have graduated.
Tuition fees abroad do costs a lot of money, tens of thousands of US dollars per year for each student. Given the higher living standards in Vietnam, studying abroad is more accessible to a wider group now, making the competition among overseas alumni fiercer. Therefore, selecting the best major which may later become a career, is crucial for any student. –VNA
