Pandemic-hit labourers, businesses get timely support

Vietnamese ministries, sectors and localities have proactively carried out 12 policies in support of employees and employers who are facing difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA).

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamese ministries, sectors and localities haveproactively carried out 12 policies in support of employees and employers who are facing difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Ministryof Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA).

As of August 4, the social insurance agency had reviewed andinformed around 375,000 employers with nearly 11.2 million employees about adecrease in the insurance premium for occupational accidents and diseases fromJuly 2021 to the end of June 2022 with a total amount of about 4.3 trillion VND(187.5 million USD).

At the same time, 22 provinces and cities have implementedthe policy of suspending contributions to the Retirement and Survivorship Fundof 136 employers with 17,657 employees, with a total amount of over 108 billionVND.

To date, 21 provinces and cities have paid nearly 48,000labourers who have their work contracts suspended or have to take no-pay leavewith a total support budget of nearly 98.3 billion VND.

A total of 1,122 workers who are forced to stop working insix provinces and cities have also received support with a total budget ofover 1.4 billion VND.

As of August 4, over 7,100 business households affected bythe pandemic had received a total amount of nearly 15.8 billion VND insupport.

The MoLISA said that it is urging People’s Committees ofprovinces and cities to direct departments and local People’s Committees tomake lists of people and businesses in need to help them get timely assistance./.

Road accident fund to provide support from September

Under Decree No. 279/2025/ND-CP and Circular No. 126/2026/TT-BCA, injured victims with bodily injury rates of over 31% to below 81% may receive up to 10 million VND (381 USD) per case, while families of deceased victims may receive up to 20 million VND.

New resolution seeks to unlock OV resources for national development

Ha Thanh, Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organisations and head of the advisory council for international integration, people-to-people diplomacy and overseas Vietnamese affairs under the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city, said Resolution No. 23 builds on the fundamental viewpoints of the Politburo's Resolution No. 36-NQ/TW issued in 2004, reaffirming that overseas Vietnamese are an inseparable part of the nation and a bridge connecting Vietnam with the world.

Vietnam-UK education cooperation: From market to partnership

In the 2024/25 academic year, about 3,725 Vietnamese students studied in the UK, while 13,285 enrolled in UK programmes delivered in Vietnam. Both flows are growing, but the balance is increasingly shifting towards UK education being delivered to learners in Vietnam. If managed strategically, this could enable Vietnam to expand access to international education at home while improving the quality of its workforce.

Free bus fares drive sharp rise in ridership in Ho Chi Minh City

As of August 12, the city’s bus network had served nearly 12 million passenger trips, up about 44% year on year. On August 12 alone, around 306,000 passengers used free buses, an increase of roughly 55%, despite students having yet to officially return to school.
