Hanoi (VNA) – CPV Central Committee General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has asked the Central Military Commission to regularly pay attention to strengthening the Party while preventing “self-evolution” and “self-transformation” behaviours and “peaceful evolution” plots by hostile forces.

The Party chief, who is also Secretary of the Central Military Commission, made the request while chairing a conference in Hanoi on December 15 reviewing national defence and military work 2017 and outline tasks for 2018.

He lauded the Military Party Committee for completing all tasks set for the year, including offering strategic advices to the Party and State on national defence and military affairs, contributing to maintaining political stability and peaceful environment for national development.

The army has completed the building of strategies, adopted several important military and defence resolutions and projects, and successfully held a number of major drills to shore up its capacity. The army also played an important role in the successful hosting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Year 2017, particularly the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in the central city of Da Nang in November. It reaped achievements in mass mobilisation, post-disaster and post-war recovery, as well as the United Nations peacekeeping mission.

Progresses have also made in technical logistics and national defence industry.

The Party General Secretary underscored the focal tasks for 2018 – a key year to implement Resolutions by the 12th National Party Congress and the 10th Military Party Congress, including closely monitoring of domestic and international situations to offer accurate and timely advices to the Party and State, improving military training quality, and developing defence industry and defence external relations.

The army must lead the way in rejecting wrongful opinions and distorted allegations by hostile forces, he said, adding that he wished the Military Party Committee would continue standing united to accomplish national defence – military and Party building tasks, thereby creating a driving force to realise the Resolutions of the 12th National Party Congress and the 10th Military Party Congress.

At the event, members of the Central Military Commission conducted criticism and self-criticism in line with the Resolution of the fourth plenum of the 12th Party Central Committee.-VNA
