Party chief receives high-ranking Cuban delegation

Hanoi (VNA) – General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam(CPV) Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong received a high-ranking delegationfrom Cuba led by Roberto Morales Ojeda, Vice President of the Council of Ministers andthe Council of State, in Hanoi on September 27.

The delegation is in Vietnam to attend the funeral of President Tran Dai Quang.

At the meeting, RobertoMorales Ojeda sincerely conveyed the deep condolences of the Cuban Party,State, and people to the Party, State and people of Vietnam over the passing ofPresident Tran Dai Quang.

He highly valued the contributions made by President Quang in Vietnam’snational defence and construction, adding that the President is a great, close friendof Cuba who had worked to promote the special bond between the Parties, States,and people of the two nations.

Hestressed the President’s warm sentiments towards Cuba, recalling that Quang wasthe last foreign leader to meet with Fidel Castro in November 2016, not longbefore the Cuban leader passed away.

On behalf of the Party, State, and people of Vietnam, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trongthanked the Party and State of Cuba for offering condolences over the passingof President Tran Dai Quang, and especially for sending the Cuban delegation overto attend the funeral.

He highly apprecitated Cuba for its observation of the two-day national mourningfor President Tran Dai Quang, with its high-ranking officials paying tribute toand writing on the funeral book at Vietnam’s diplomatic representative offices,showing the special friendship between Vietnam and Cuba.

The Party General Secretary affirmed that the Vietnamese Party, State, andpeople will do their best in joining hands with the Party, State and people of Cubato deepen the exemplary fraternity, traditional friendship, comprehensivecooperation and faithful solidarity between the two Parties, States and peopleof Vietnam Cuba founded by President Ho Chi Minh and leader Fidel Castro.–VNA

NA Standing Committee discusses continued VAT reduction

The Government proposed a two-percentage-point reduction in VAT - from 10% to 8% - on goods and services currently subject to the 10% rate. This excludes certain sectors such as telecommunications, finance, banking, securities, insurance, real estate, metals, mineral products (excluding coal), and goods and services subject to special consumption tax (excluding petrol). The proposed timeframe for the reduction is from July 1, 2025 to December 31, 2026.

Vietnam, Laos push toward effective, sustainable trade relations

In the first quarter of 2025, Vietnam-Laos trade reached 980.1 million USD, a surge of 105.5% compared to the same period in 2024. Exports from Vietnam valued at 346.4 million USD, representing soaring 138.6%. Meanwhile, imports from Laos rose by 91.1% to 633.6 million USD.
