Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has urged the Vietnam Women Union (VWU) at all levels to continue enhancing women’s advancement and improving their role in socio-economic development.
The Party leader made the request at a working session with the VWU Party Committee in Hanoi on Nov. 29.
According to General Secretary Trong, women play an important role in the society, accounting for over 50 percent of population and 48 percent of labour force in the country.
Therefore, the Party has always attached importance to women affairs with the issuance of many resolutions and the launching of programmes and projects to promote the role of women and their movements, he noted
He suggested that the VWU’s activities in the coming time continue focusing on improving knowledge and capacity of women as well as urging them to participate in national construction and defence.
The Party chief expressed his wish that the VWU will effectively organise activities for women and encourage them to build advanced, happy and equal families and promote their role in caring and educating children.
He also asked the union to make careful preparations for the upcoming 11 th National Women Congress./.
