Chairman of the Cambodian National Assembly (NA) Heng Samrin has made it clear that the Cambodian People’s Party, Senate, NA, Government, solidarity front and people will do their best to foster the traditional friendship and across-the-board cooperation with Vietnam.
Meeting with Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in Hanoi on January 4, Heng Samrin expressed his profound gratitude to Vietnam for the valuable, effective and timely help the country provided to Cambodia during the national liberation, saving Cambodia from the genocidal regime, as well as in national reconciliation and reconstruction.
The great merit of the Party, State, people and armed forces of Vietnam will forever be remembered in Cambodia’s history and by Cambodian people, he said.
General Secretary Trong said the January 7, 1979 victory is an important milestone in the Vietnam – Cambodia relations, and a festive day of both nations.
He said the joint hosting of the ceremony marking the January 7 victory is meant to pay tribute to Vietnamese and Cambodian martyrs who sacrificed their life for independence and freedom of each country as well as the common destiny of both nations.
The Party leader expressed satisfaction with fruitful bilateral ties in all fields, and reiterated Vietnam ’s top priority to bolstering the good neighbourliness, long-standing amity and long-term comprehensive links with Cambodia, considering it as a common invaluable asset.
Heng Samrin, who is also President of the National Council of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Motherland, and a delegation of the Cambodian National Assembly arrived in Hanoi earlier in the day for a visit at the invitation of the Vietnamese NA Chairman.
The Cambodian guests will attend a ceremony to mark the 35th anniversary of the victory of the southwest border defence war and the joint victory of Vietnam and Cambodia over the Khmer Rouge genocidal regime.-VNA
