Hanoi (VNA) – Politburo member and head of the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission Nguyen Van Binh had a meeting with a delegation of the US Department of the Treasury in Hanoi on July 24.
Binh noted with satisfaction that the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership has continued developing substantively and fruitfully in all fields.
The year 2019 is important to both sides as they prepare to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their diplomatic relationship normalisation in 2020, he noted, adding that the Vietnamese Party and State attach importance to relations with the US, one of the leading partners of the country, and wish to continue promoting the ties.
The official said economy and trade are always one of the important pillars in Vietnam-US relations, and Vietnam does not pursue a policy of trade surplus with the US.
The two sides should keep cooperating with each other closely to effectively deal with issues of shared concern, Binh added.
At the meeting, Acting Assistant Secretary at the US Department of the Treasury Mitchell Silk introduced an initiative which will promote low-cost private investment in energy and infrastructure in Asia (Asia EIPCI).
Welcoming the initiative, Binh said it suits Vietnam’s policies in attracting domestic and foreign capital to energy and infrastructure development so as to boost fast and sustainable economic development in the country. -VNA
