Hanoi (VNA) – Politburo member Vo Van Thuong has emphasised the importance of promoting the overall strength of the whole political system in external communication activities.

Thuong, who is Secretary of the Party Central Committee, head of its Commission for Information and Education and head of the Steering Committee for External Information Service, chaired the steering committee’s meeting in Hanoi on June 22 to launch its tasks for the 2016-2020 working tenure.

He affirmed that the external information work has contributed importantly to implementing the Party’s foreign policy and fulfilling the country’s socio-economic development and defence-security tasks over the past time.

For 2016-2020, the committee should continue renewing its operation, increasing its activeness, and intensifying coordination with ministries and offices involved in external communication activities, he noted.

It is necessary to promote the role of news agencies, expand the operation of information channels in foreign languages, and take advantage of the important voice of foreign press agencies in promoting the image of Vietnam to attract the support of the international community and the Vietnamese community abroad for Vietnam’s stance on important issues of public concern, he stated.

The official also stressed the need to reject incorrect information and allegations, and consider the use of new means of communications in external information activities.-VNA
