Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, Party politburo member, worked between July 17-21 with the Party committees of the northern province of Nam Dinh and the central provinces of Quang Binh and Thua Thien-Hue on preparations for local Party congresses.

On behalf of the politburo, PM Dung agreed with reports by local Party committees, with strict criticism and targets for the next term.

He asked those Party organisations to collect opinions and complete reports to submit to their up-coming Party congresses and focus on analysis and appraisals of local potential.

PM Dung praised efforts by the three provinces’ Party committees for the provinces’ socio-economic achievements in the 2006-2010 period.

In the period, Nam Dinh obtained a GDP growth of 10.2 percent, while Quang Binh achieved 11 percent and Thua Thien-Hue, 12 percent. Their economic structures developed towards active trends with an average poverty reduction rate of 2-4 percent a year.

They maintained national defence and security, ensured political stability and created a favourable environment for socio-economic development. Their works on Party strengthening and following the moral example of President Ho Chi Minh achieved satisfactory results.

However, PM Dung pointed out disadvantages of those Party organisations and told them to strictly recognise and work out solutions, especially for poverty reduction, raising income for people and narrowing the gaps between urban and rural areas.

He advised Nam Dinh’s Party Committee to discuss a detailed plan to build the province into a centre of the Red River delta in education, health care and industry.

Meanwhile, he told Quang Binh to develop their potential in forestry to grow industrial plants in combination with wood processing and exert efforts to drive 32 poor communes out of poverty in the next term.

The PM suggested Thua Thien- Hue quickly apply science and technology to agricultural production. In addition, the province should continue tap their potential in infrastructure, including seaport, airport, land and rail routes to develop high technology, cultural tourism, health care and training, and build Hue city into a major centre.

On the Party organisations’ leadership and guidelines, PM Dung also asked them to point out achievements and disadvantages in the fight against corruption./.
