Hanoi (VNA) – Up to 105 million passengers are expected to pass through Vietnamese airports by the end of this year, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV).
Meanwhile, the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) is expected to handle more than 900,000 flights this year, it said.
In August alone, the VATM handled some 80,000 take-offs and landings, a year-on-year increase of 10 percent.
Last year, civil airports across the nation hosted more than 94 million passengers on 611,165 flights, 16 percent higher in number of passengers and 10 percent higher in number of flights than in 2016.
The aviation sector transported some 6.55 million people during the month, up 8.8 percent from the same time last year, including 4.78 million passengers carried by Vietnamese airlines, rising 9.9 percent and accounting for 74 percent of the aviation market share.
Earlier, the CAAV announced that some 35.4 million air passengers were transported in the first six months of this year, a year-on-year surge of 16.8 percent. This year will be the first time the volume of passengers served by the aviation sector will surpass the 70 million mark.
71 foreign airlines from 28 countries and territories across the five continents are operating regular international flights to Vietnam. They, together with three Vietnamese airlines - Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air and Jetstar Pacific Airlines, are operating 140 regular international routes and charter flights from/to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, Hai Phong, Da Lat, Can Tho and Dong Hoi.
In the domestic market, Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, Jetstar Pacific and Vasco are running 47 routes connecting Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City with 18 local airports.
The Vietnamese and foreign airlines also operate charter flights to and from Can Tho, Da Lat, Phu Quoc, Nha Trang and Dong Hoi depending on travel season.-VNA
