Kuala Lumpur (VNA) - The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng was arrested on June 29 under an order from the office of attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali.
Eng was investigated on two accusations. The first one relates to a real estate transaction in July, 2015, in which he bought a two-storey house from a businesswoman named Phang Li Koon at a price much lower than the market price at that time.
The other accusation involves using public land for incorrect purposes.
Eng is facing trial on June 30 and if found guilty, he will go to jail.
Eng, 55, is the secretary-general of the Democratic Action Party ( DAP), the opposition party in Malaysia since 2004. He has held the Penang Chief Minister post since 2008. - VNA
