Hanoi (VNA) – The Party and the Statehave pursued a consistent policy of ensuring social welfare for people, asreflected through a raft of Party documents, National Assembly resolutions,strategies, plans, projects and programmes of the Government.

Social welfare activities have been rolled out indifferent sectors, from health care to education, insurance, employment andpoverty reduction.

In 2020 when millions of labourers were affected bythe COVID-19 pandemic, and natural disasters battered many provinces and cities,the Party and the State adopted multiple countermeasures.

The Party and the State consistently protected humanrights and people’s health and lives with strong and humanitarian policies anddecisions. Meanwhile, the Government proposed the legislature issue solutionsand fiscal policies to remove difficulties in production, business and socialwelfare.

Notably, a package worth 62 trillion VND (2.66billion USD) has been implemented to support those affected by the pandemic,which is an unprecedented decision by the Government.

Of the funding, about 12.9 trillion VND had beendisbursed as of late 2020, benefiting nearly 12,000 people and over 30,000household businesses.

Insurance coverage has also been expanded, with therate of labourers joining social insurance growing around 32.7 percent lastyear, and up to 90.7 percent of the national population covered by healthinsurance.

The number of poor households dropped from 9.88percent in late 2015 to only below 3 percent in 2020, statistics showed.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has recentlyaffirmed that the Government will make continuous efforts in poverty reduction,especially in rural, mountainous and ethnic minority-inhabited areas.

He also pledged to facilitate the building ofaffordable houses and cultural facilities at industrial parks, while increasinghealth insurance coverage, particularly for children, the elderly, and those indifficult circumstances.

“People should be placed at the centre of allpolices and decisions,” the leader stressed.

Party General Secretary and State President NguyenPhu Trong has also emphasised that the Party and the State exerted efforts toensure social progress and equality, with attention paid to sustainability ofpopulation and development policies./.

“I love my fatherland” journey 2026 launched

The “I Love My Fatherland” journey will comprise seven stages linked to historical, cultural and revolutionary sites across the country. The journey will begin in Nghe An on May 16 to mark President Ho Chi Minh’s birthday, before continuing through Hue city, Tuyen Quang–Lung Cu Flag Tower, Dien Bien, Khanh Hoa, Ca Mau and Ho Chi Minh City, and concluding in Hanoi in October.

Education ministry targets five digital technology incubators at universities

A key target under the new plan is the establishment of five digital technology incubators, or Deeptech Hubs, at universities and research institutes with strong potential. The education ministry also plans to launch a training programme for 1,000 outstanding technology entrepreneurs and develop criteria for selecting and supporting startup ecosystems within educational institutions.

Vietnam Customs expands capacity to tackle cross-border narcotics crime

Established in November 2025, the NTC comprises six officers from the Anti-Smuggling Investigation Sub-Department specialising in surveillance, intelligence collection and information analysis. The centre is tasked with strengthening customs capacity in risk assessment and drug crime targeting, helping authorities detect and prevent illicit cross-border trafficking of narcotics and other dangerous substances at an early stage.

Vietnam steps up implementation of ethnic affairs strategy through 2030

No “blind spots” in crackdown on smuggling, counterfeit goods

In the Jan-April period, authorities nationwide uncovered and handled nearly 44,000 cases related to smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods, while initiating 1,464 criminal cases involving 2,277 suspects, according to the National Steering Committee for Combating Smuggling, Commercial Fraud and Counterfeit Goods (National Steering Committee 389).
