President Truong Tan Sang called for more efforts from judges and officials of People’s Courts to enhance the court system’s operation efficiency during a ceremony to mark the sector’s 70th anniversary in Hanoi on September 9.

He noted that currently, the court sector is facing both great opportunities and challenges.

The significant role and position of the court system is recognised in the 2013 Constitution and constitutionalised by the 2014 Law on the Organisation of People’s Courts, he said.

Together with the Party’s policies on judicial reform until 2020, the supplementation and completion of relevant legal systems has facilitated the court sector’s operation renovations to ensure unity, fairness and transparency in judgments, he said.

However, the President also pointed to difficulties facing the sector, as crime rates are rising and becoming increasingly complicated with technology advancements and the involvement of foreign criminals.

He asked for stronger determination from each judge, official and staff member of the courts in improving both political and professional skills.

It is crucial to ensure fairness, integrity and honesty in judging activities while learning from and making efforts to better understand and support the people, he stressed.

Commenting on the performance of the court system over the past seven decades, President Sang said the sector has fulfilled its tasks by handing down strict punishments to those harming the revolution and the interest of the nation, Party, State and people; defending revolutionary achievements; and serving the country’s industrialisation, modernisation and international integration.

According to Chief Judge of the Supreme People’s Court Truong Hoa Binh, the court sector has worked hard to protect justice, human rights and socialism as well as the legitimate interests of organisations and individuals since its establishment on September 13, 1945.

The sector has expanded its partnerships with courts from various countries in the region and the world, he said.

The Chief Judge also noted that the sector has implemented a number of movements to encourage judges and officials to improve their capacity and performance, including the campaign to study and follow President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example.

On the occasion, President Sang presented the Ho Chi Minh Order to the court sector, the second time the sector has received the award. He also presented the order posthumously to the first Chief Judge of the Supreme People’s Court Pham Van Bach and former head of the Personnel and Organisation Department of the Supreme People’s Court Tran Kim Giam.-VNA
