The Foreign Trade Association of Peru (ComexPeru) hopes the country can quickly reach agreement with Vietnam in the framework of negotiations on the Trans-Pacific Partnership in order to boost investment and trade ties with Vietnam in the coming time.
The association said in the first eight months of 2014, Peru exported 86.1 million USD worth of goods to Vietnam, a surge of 256 percent compared to the same period last year. Of the figure, seafood exports accounted for 59 million USD and agricultural and livestock products brought home 7.6 million USD.
Meanwhile, the country’s imports from Vietnam were valued at 152 million USD, up nearly 88 percent year-on- year.
According to ComexPeru, which is a private association of leading Peruvian companies involving in foreign trade, a trade deal with Vietnam under TPP negotiations will strengthen trade exchange between the two sides, enabling Peru to diversify its exports.-VNA
