Philippine gov’t, NDF ink indefinite ceasefire

The Philippine government and the National Democratic Front (NDF) armed group have agreed an indefinite extension to a ceasefire to facilitate peace talks underway in Norway.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Philippine government and the National Democratic Front (NDF) armed group have agreed an indefinite extension to a ceasefire to facilitate peace talks underway in Norway.

The foreign ministry of Norway, the country is playing the role of go-between in the talks, confirmed the information on August 26.

According to the ministry, representatives of the Philippine government and the NDF are due to sign a joint declaration, in which the two sides commit to ceasefires without a limitation in time on August 26. 

Ceasefire declaration given by the NDF earlier will be expired on August 27.

On August 22, the Philippines government and the NDF began peace talks in Oslo, Norway in an effort to end a nearly five-decade-long conflict in the country.-VNA
