Hanoi (VNA) - A ceremony to mark the 80th founding anniversary of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) was held at Clark Air Base in Pampanga province, the Philippines, on December 21.

At the ceremony, AFP showed its military equipment, including FA-50 jet fighters, armoured vehicles, trucks and rubber boats, among others.

In his speech at the event, President Benigno S. Aquino III announced that his government has fulfilled the promise to modernise the AFP.

He said that in the remaining 192 days of his administration, he committed to further improve the AFP with a fund worth 1.77 billion USD for medium-term capability development until 2017, adding that this was on top of the 1.2 billion USD splashed out on 45 projects which were already completed under the current government.

Aquino stressed his last mission order for the military before his term of office ends in next June is to ensure the successful organisation of the elections scheduled in May, 2016.-VNA
