Hanoi (VNA) - The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on May 7 announced a plan to buy more weapons this year, including pistols, machine guns and water vehicles, to beef up its fighting capability at sea.

The PCG spokesman, Captain Armand Balilo, said the government will spend about 20 million USD on the plan, adding that pistols, assault and sniffer rifles will be bought for the Special Operations Force, machine guns for small boat operations, and heavy machine guns for PCG vessels.

He said the acquisition of these weapons will beef up the PCG's capability for maritime security and law enforcement operations.

According to him, PCG has recently ordered 70 sub-machine guns 9 mm worth 200,000 USD, which were delivered on May 7.
