Hanoi (VNA) - The Philippine Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said on January 17 that flash floods and landslides in the southern region left one dead, one missing and 1,300 displaced.
DSWD Minister Judy Taguiwalo cited the report of the Mindanao Survey Office as saying local offices on managing disaster risks have carried out evacuation activities in advance, especially to those who live in along rivers in Cagayan de Orro city.
In the province of Misamis Oriental, the governor asked schools to close after a woman was washed away by flood.
According to Spokesperson for the President Ernesto Abella, the state of emergency on natural disaster was announced at Cagayan de Orro city and the DSWD is supporting those affected by flood in north of Mindanao.-VNA
