Italian scooter maker, Piaggio, held a groundbreaking ceremony for its second plant in Vietnam’s northern province of Vinh Phuc on April 6.
The plant, which cost 40 million USD, covers an area of 20,000 sq. m and is capable of producing 100,000 scooters a year, according to Piaggio Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Roberto Colannino.
The plant is expected to raise its capacity to 300,000 scooters by mid-2012.
Piaggio established its first plant in Vietnam in June 2009. The 30 million USD plant churns out about 100,000 scooters a year.
Piaggio is the fourth largest producer of scooters and motorcycles in the world with operations in 50 countries./.
