Thai Binh (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on February 14cut the ribbon to inaugurate the Thai Binh Thermal Power Plant in the northernprovince’s Thai Thuy district.

Hailing the plant asone of the leading in Vietnam, PM Phuc said that the inauguration of theproject is the outcome of the coordination between the Vietnam Electricity(EVN), a Japanese contractor and supervision and construction units fromGermany, the US and Vietnam.

In the time to come, theEVN should focus all resources on ensuring enough electricity forsocio-economic development and people’s daily life, he stressed, asking theinvestor to apply advanced technology to ensure safe operation, and intensifysupervision over the supply of coal and the treatment of cinders.

Work on the plant,located in My Loc commune, Thai Thuy district, began in February 2015. It costsa total of over 26.5 trillion VND (1.27 billion USD), of which 85 percent comesfrom the official development assistance (ODA) of the Japan InternationalCooperation Agency and the rest is funded by the EVN.

EVN Chairman DuongQuang Thanh said that the plant’s two generator complexes with a combinedcapacity of 600 MW have been put into commercial operation since April 2018. Todate, the plant has generated more than 3 billion kWh of electricity.

The plant is expectedto contribute 3.6-3.9 billion kWh of electricity to the national grid eachyear.-VNA
