The Vietnamese Government leader made the statement at a mid-term consultative group meeting (CG) for Vietnam in the Mekong delta province of Kien Giang on June 9.

He also called for more international cooperation and assistance for Vietnam to develop strategies, policies and human resources, pledging the effective use of donors’ capital sources.

Addressing the conference, the PM thanked donors for their continued effective assistance to Vietnam in 2009 and the first months of 2010.

He pointed to the country’s three main targets for 2010, including enhancing macro economic stability, controlling inflation at 6.5-7 percent and ensuring social welfare and security.

Vietnam is a market economy and all controls are commensurate with international practice and Vietnam’s law, affirmed the PM.

On the national 2011-2020 socio-economic development strategy and the 2011-2015 plan, the PM laid stress on Vietnam ’s target to become a modern industrial nation with an average per-capita GDP of 3,000 USD-3,200 USD by 2020.

To the target, he said Vietnam would adopt five major positions, including fast and sustainable development, synchronous renovation in line with political and economic circumstances, promotion of democracy and human factor, development of sciences and technologies and building of a more independent economy.

The country will focus on law making and enforcement to ensure an equal competition among businesses from different economic sectors, renovating the economic planning and management and well implementing social policies, he said.

Vietnam will also implement suitable financial and monetary policies and mechanisms, develop a modern industry and agriculture, he added.

The government leader also pointed to raising the efficiency of the state management, accelerating the fight against corruption, enhancement of the Party’s leadership and promotion of the people’s mastery as the keys to success.

At the conference, donors praised Vietnam’s efforts to successfully overcome the economic crisis, especially to stabilise its macro-economy, maintain its growth, curb high inflation and ensure social welfare.

They suggested that Vietnam maintain macro-economic stability, give priority to human resource and social development, cope with climate change, restructure the economy and attract investment capital for development.

Representatives of Vietnamese authorities also answered donors’ queries on the realty market’s pressure, the market-oriented pricing policy, statistics, payment balance and public debts, and the foreign exchange policies, among others./.
