PM Dung meets with Cambodian counterpart

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung had a private meeting with his Cambodian counterpart, Samdech Hun Sen, on April 2, as soon as he arrived in Phnom Penh for the 20 th ASEAN Summit.

BothPMs said they are pleased with how their friendship has blossomed andthe way both two countries have cooperated in the recent past. Theyagreed to boost bilateral links in the future, especially in economics,trade, and investment.

They also agreed to jointlyorganise the third Vietnam-Cambodia Investment Promotion Conference,scheduled to be held in Vietnam in June 2012.

As 2012 marks Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Year and the 45 years sincediplomatic ties were first established between the two countries (June24, 1967-2012), they also directed their ministries and agencies to workcloser with each other when organising events to celebrateVietnam-Cambodia Friendship Year.

Regarding borderdemarcation and marker planting, both leaders agreed to continueimplementing previously reached agreements and focus on smoothing overany difficulties to speed up the completion of this work.

PM Dung stated that Vietnam supports this year’s theme of “ASEAN: onecommunity, one destiny”, and said he is confident that Cambodia willsuccessfully hold the ASEAN Summit and fulfil their obligations as ASEANChair, which will help to make the ASEAN Community a reality by 2015.

He thanked the Cambodian Government for creatingthe best possible conditions for the Vietnamese community living thereand suggested that Cambodia continue to support Vietnamese peopleliving and working in the country.

PM Hun Sen saidthe country will do everything it can for Vietnamese people andbusinesses in Cambodia and added that he hopes to receive Vietnam’s support to successfully host the Year as Chair of ASEAN.

Later the same day, the Vietnamese PM joined with the heads of otherdelegations to the 20 th ASEAN Summit at a banquet hosted by CambodianPM Hun Sen.-VNA
